Montague sent a record 6 Individuals to Individual Regionals on Saturday. Chris Aebig, Aiden Perreault, Cale Coppess, Landon Askins, Tristan Winkleblack and Aaron Rolf all qualified for regionals last weekend by placing top 4 in the individual District. The Wildcat wrestlers competed well in arguably one of the toughest regions in the state. Freshman Chris Aebig became the first Freshman State Qualifier since Montague moved to Division 3 six years ago. Chris avenged his loss to Cameron Dood of Orchard View from the previous weekend to move into the consultation finals and secure his spot at the MHSAA finals. Junior Cale Coppess also qualified for the Finals Saturday. He will make his second consecutive appearance, after placing 8th last season.
All though the other Wildcats did not qualify for State they will all return next season. They each had a large part in Montague’s record breaking season. The helped set the single season record for wins at 23 and will look to build upon that foundation next year.
The Division 3 Individual Wrestling Finals will take place Friday at Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo.
